Jadwiga Ziemiańska was a soldier in the Second World War that was part of the Polish Auxiliary Territorial Service (also known as the Pomocnicza Służba Kobiet, PSK or “Pestki”), operating in the Land Forces. Women in this organization provided various supportive roles for the war effort such as serving as nurses, cooks, drivers and many other essential roles. Little is known about Ziemiańska but based on her archival documents we know that she worked as a cleark in an Armory no. 5 factory in Przemyśl, Poland around 1925. Around 1942, she ended up in Tehran, Iran as most refugees and former Soviet prisoners did. At that time she joined the Polish 2 Corps under Lt. Gen. Władysław Anders and held the rank of Lance Sergeant – army ID no. 8/Z/1903/IV. As Polish Resettlement Corps’s soldier she was demobilised in Great Britain on 23 January 1948 and ended up in Canada.
